The visa and form decide what you attach
Open the exact visa subclass and stream on Home Affairs, then read its Step by step → Gather your documents section. The online form tells you what to attach and whether it is needed before or after submission. Student applicants can also check the official Student document tool, but its result must be checked against their own form.
A generic checklist cannot decide which identity, financial, relationship or other records your circumstances require. Do not attach a document merely because someone else's visa application needed it.

Where do documents go after the online form is submitted?
Home Affairs says the application form determines which documents to attach and whether they are attached before or after submission. For an application still awaiting a decision, sign in to ImmiAccount, expand the application, choose View details, then Attach documents. Select the person, reason and document type, or use Additional documents → Other Documents if the relevant type is not listed. Check that each upload appears under Received.
If you omitted relevant evidence, attach it as soon as you can. Do not wait for a request or assume the case will remain undecided: Home Affairs advises a complete application at lodgement and says missing documents can delay or lead to refusal. A finalised application cannot accept more attachments. Do not email documents or send a cloud-drive link instead.

Keep the original and its English translation together
Home Affairs asks for non-English documents to be translated into English. If the translator is in Australia, its current decision-ready advice says to include the translator's NAATI practitioner number. If the translator is outside Australia, include their full name, address, phone number and qualifications in the language they translate. Read the exact visa page for any additional instructions about original copies, certification or the type of translator.
Check document-specific certification instructions. For a non-English police certificate in a skilled-visa application, Home Affairs’ skilled preparation page specifically asks for a certified copy of the translation. Match this to your exact subclass list and any individual request. Skilled-police translation note checked 9 October 2026. Check spellings, dates and document numbers in the translation against the original and your application. Do not change a record to make it appear to satisfy a requirement.

Check every page before upload
Home Affairs accepts a clear document photo when the information is readable; the visa-specific page may give more precise scan or format instructions. Capture the whole page in colour, including stamps and reverse sides where relevant. Keep a multi-page record in the order it belongs, and check the current file type and size rules on the attachment page before uploading. ImmiAccount does not accept encrypted or secured PDF files.
Keep your own secure copy. Home Affairs says you cannot retrieve supporting documents from ImmiAccount after uploading. MyAusVisa does not ask you to upload passports, bank statements, translations or application numbers here.
What if ImmiAccount rejects the file?
Home Affairs currently allows digital photographs from 70 KB to 3.5 MB each and other documents up to 5 MB each. Its attachment page lists accepted file types, including PDF, JPG, PNG, DOCX and XLSX. It rejects encrypted or secured PDFs. Check the live list before converting a file; the extension alone does not prove the content is readable.
If an upload fails, check the size, type and PDF security, then try the file again. Home Affairs also suggests another accepted format or browser. It does not accept a Google Drive or OneDrive link in place of the file. Keep each page readable after reducing a file's size.
Most visa applications allow up to 60 documents per person in ImmiAccount; partner applications allow up to 100 per person. These are upload limits, not a recommended number of attachments. If you reach the limit, read the Department's route-specific directions; its additional-documents form is available only in stated circumstances. Do not send files to an unofficial email address.

Use ImmiAccount's attachment categories
In the application's Attach documents screen, choose the person, reason and document type that match the file. If a suitable type is not listed, Home Affairs explains its Additional documents / Other Documents option. After attaching, confirm that the item appears under Received with the successful-upload indicator. A file selected on your device is not yet proof of an upload. Home Affairs says files attached to an application that is not submitted within 30 days are deleted from ImmiAccount and must be attached again.
Home Affairs says not to email documents to the Department. If it later requests more evidence, use the channel and deadline in your own message. You cannot add documents to a finalised application. Keep checking the ImmiAccount inbox while a decision is pending.

Attached the wrong file after submission?
Home Affairs says it cannot be removed from a submitted application. Use its incorrect-answer notification and attach the correct file as soon as possible. Read the correction steps →
Choose the form for your actual subclass
Home Affairs gives different document-limit routes. The additional-documents form lists Student 500, Student Guardian 590, Temporary Graduate 485 and specified skilled and business visas. It covers the limit for all applicants or another attachment barrier. Partner, Parent, Child and Other Family applications have separate links on the attachment page.
Visitor 600 is not listed in that additional-documents form. Its “visa type not listed” link goes to ImmiAccount technical support. Follow that link rather than choosing a different subclass. The form also says not to resend documents already in the application.

Why can’t I click “information provided” again?
If ImmiAccount shows “I confirm I have provided information as requested”, Home Affairs says it can be used once to indicate readiness for assessment. Later attachments remain visible to officers; you do not need to contact the Department just because the button cannot be clicked again.
