Which visa should you check?
For a visit, explain the temporary trip and how you will fund it. For study, check your course, provider and personal document list before lodging.
The Visitor visa (subclass 600) tourist stream is a useful first page to review for a visit. Eligibility depends on your exact circumstances. Home Affairs decides applications.
What else should you know?
The Australian Embassy in Nepal directs applicants to ImmiAccount and says most applications from Nepal are managed by the Australian High Commission in New Delhi. If biometrics are requested, follow the letter: eligible AUI-numbered applicants in Nepal may use the Australian Immi App; others should check the Kathmandu collection-centre instructions.
If a certificate for time living in Nepal is requested
Your passport alone does not decide every police check. Start with your visa instructions and any individual request, including the countries where you previously lived. The new issuing note separates citizenship and current-residence categories; it is not a complete required-document list.
Online application and local follow-up
- Choose the route for your purpose. For a temporary holiday or family visit, start with the overseas Visitor 600 Tourist stream. It does not allow work. For a full-time registered course, read the Student 500 route before paying for any visa application.
- Apply in ImmiAccount. The Australian Embassy directs applicants in Nepal to lodge and track online. Use the document list for your own visa and keep access to the application even if an agent helps.
- Read any biometrics request letter. The Embassy says applicants in Nepal usually complete biometrics unless excluded or exempt. Home Affairs lists Nepal for the Australian Immi App, but only eligible applicants whose letter has a visa lodgement number beginning AUI can use it. If your number does not begin AUI, follow the centre instructions; the Embassy points applicants to VFS Global for a Kathmandu appointment.
- Use the right enquiry channel. The Embassy in Kathmandu cannot give individual visa updates; the High Commission in New Delhi manages most applications from Nepal. Follow your ImmiAccount messages and the official contact instructions.

Use your passport and provider in the Student document tool
Before a Student 500 application, confirm that your course and provider are registered on CRICOS and obtain a current Confirmation of Enrolment for each intended course. Use Home Affairs’ document checklist tool with your Nepali passport and the education provider. Recheck it just before submission: if English-language or financial-capacity evidence is on the list, attach it with the application.
Answer the Genuine Student questions in your own words in the online form and attach supporting evidence. Prepare Overseas Student Health Cover and any other records the current application asks for. If someone tells you to enter as a visitor and switch to a Student visa later, check the official visa conditions first; several visitor visa holders cannot lodge a valid Student visa application while in Australia.

A visa promise is a warning sign
The Australian Embassy in Nepal warns about guaranteed visas, claims that a Visitor visa permits work and advice to switch from a Visitor visa to a Student visa after arrival. Check the visa type, answers and correspondence in your own ImmiAccount. A registered agent can help, but they cannot guarantee a decision or change the conditions on your visa.
