Which visa should you check?
For a visit, explain the trip and your circumstances where you live. For study, verify the course and use the passport-and-provider Student document tool.
The Visitor visa (subclass 600) tourist stream is a useful first page to review for a visit. Eligibility depends on your exact circumstances. Home Affairs decides applications.
What else should you know?
The Australian High Commission in Abuja does not process visa applications or answer visa enquiries. Use Home Affairs and ImmiAccount for applications and updates.
Use Home Affairs, not the High Commission counter
The Australian High Commission in Abuja does not process visa applications or provide application updates. For an overseas Visitor 600 Tourist stream application, use the Home Affairs visa page to confirm eligibility, then lodge, pay, attach evidence and track the case in ImmiAccount. Attach the supporting documents required for your own application at lodgement; the High Commission notes that a decision can be made after submission without waiting for missing files.
- Check the current Tourist stream requirements and fee. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when this stream is decided.
- Prepare a clear passport scan, visit purpose and plans, funding evidence and circumstances that explain your temporary stay. Include an invitation if relevant; translate documents that are not in English.
- Submit through ImmiAccount and monitor requests for biometrics, health checks or more information. Upload follow-up documents in your account.
- Wait for the written grant before making non-refundable travel commitments. Read the permitted stay, entry dates and conditions in your own decision notice.

If Home Affairs asks for biometrics
Follow the request letter. Home Affairs currently lists Australian Biometrics Collection Centres in Lagos and Abuja and says an appointment is needed for centre collection. Nigeria is not on its current Australian Immi App country list. If you live in another country, check that country's app eligibility and your own request letter. Check the live centre directory before making a trip.
If you were asked to provide biometrics but cannot, the High Commission directs you to attach a written explanation to your application in ImmiAccount. This does not waive the requirement; wait for Home Affairs' response. For application status, use ImmiAccount or the official processing-time guide rather than asking the High Commission to decide or track the case.

Build the Student 500 list for your provider
If your main purpose is a registered course, check Student 500 instead of using a Visitor 600 as a study plan. Verify the provider and course on CRICOS. Home Affairs generally requires a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) for each intended course, with limited special-category alternatives explained in the official document tool. Select your Nigerian passport country and actual provider in that tool, then recheck its output and the ImmiAccount prompts just before lodging.
Write Genuine Student answers about your real circumstances, course and provider choice, and expected benefit. Prepare records that support those answers. If the current document list asks for English-language or financial-capacity evidence, attach it at lodgement. Check Overseas Student Health Cover and, for anyone under 18, the welfare and parental-consent requirements. A fixed "Nigeria Student checklist" cannot replace the tool for your provider and circumstances.
The Australian High Commission in Abuja does not decide visa applications or give case updates. Apply and watch for requests in ImmiAccount. If biometrics are requested while you are in Nigeria, follow the letter and current appointment details for Lagos or Abuja; Nigeria is not on the current Australian Immi App country list. If you live elsewhere, use that location's service instructions. A biometrics appointment is not a visa grant.
