Which visa should you check?
The ETA and first Work and Holiday 462 have different purposes and application channels. Singapore residence with a different passport does not create eligibility for either. Check your actual travel passport and the live first-462 cap before planning.
The ETA (subclass 601) may fit a short visitor trip. Eligibility depends on your exact circumstances. Home Affairs decides applications.

What else should you know?
The Australian High Commission in Singapore directs most non-ETA visa applications to ImmiAccount. If Home Affairs requests biometrics while you are in Singapore, check your own letter: an eligible AUI-numbered request may use the Australian Immi App; otherwise follow current collection-centre instructions.
Check ETA 601 before using a Visitor 600 form
Home Affairs lists Singapore among the eligible passport jurisdictions for an Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601). A Singapore citizen travelling on a valid Singapore passport can check that route for tourism, visiting family or friends, a cruise or permitted business visitor activity. It generally allows repeat travel while valid and stays of up to three months after each entry. It does not permit taking a job in Australia or living there through repeat short visits.
Apply from outside Australia using the official Australian ETA app. Each traveller, including a child, needs an individual application and a live image. Check the scanned passport details and every answer before paying the app service charge. Singapore permanent residence or an Employment Pass with a different citizenship does not make that other passport ETA-eligible. If the app cannot be used, your stay is longer or your circumstances do not fit an ETA, compare a suitable Visitor 600 stream or another visa through Home Affairs.

Check the live cap before planning an application
For an extended holiday with short-term work, Home Affairs currently lists Singapore under the first Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462), a separate route from ETA. Its country-cap table on 2 October 2026 listed Singapore open against an annual first-visa grant cap of 2,500. Open status does not reserve a place or establish eligibility; a cap can move to paused or closed during the program year. Home Affairs warns status updates can take up to 48 hours to appear. Read the live table before attempting an application. Singapore is on the cap path, not the separate China, India and Vietnam ballot.
The first-462 age range is 18–30 inclusive at application, with the deadline assessed using Australian Eastern time. Home Affairs' education table groups Singapore with countries that require a tertiary degree, graduate certificate or diploma, or two completed years of undergraduate university study. It also requires evidence of Functional English. Singapore citizenship alone is not one of the passport-based Functional English exemptions; check whether your English-language study or a current accepted test meets the live rule. Singapore is listed as not requiring a government-support letter. These are different questions, so do not infer that no letter means no education or English evidence.
A first 462 application is lodged online from outside Australia, and Home Affairs must decide it while you are outside. Check all other requirements, including prior Working Holiday Maker history, funds, health, character and dependent children. A first grant normally starts its 12-month stay on first entry; read your own entry deadline and conditions before booking. The second and third 462 visas have separate specified-work rules and are not subject to the first-visa cap.

An older Embassy page says Singaporeans cannot use a Working Holiday visa
An Australian High Commission Singapore jobs page still says Singapore nationals are not entitled to a Working Holiday or Work and Holiday visa. That statement conflicts with Home Affairs' current first-462 Singapore passport list and its current Singapore cap row. Use the live Home Affairs visa and cap pages for today's route and availability. The 2 October 2026 cap table lists Singapore open, but its status can change and neither source promises an individual grant.
The High Commission's older PDF checklists also describe paper or in-person application steps and historic charges. For a current first 462, follow Home Affairs' online ImmiAccount instructions and its live price rather than those older checklists. If you need help with an individual case, the High Commission says visa applications are managed by Home Affairs.

Read a biometrics letter before choosing an app or a centre
Biometrics are not an automatic step for every ETA or visitor. If Home Affairs requests them for your application while you are in Singapore, check the visa lodgement number and instructions in the letter. Home Affairs lists Singapore for the Australian Immi App when an eligible request number begins AUI. If it does not begin AUI, follow the letter and book an Australian Biometrics Collection Centre appointment through the current service. The High Commission lists a Singapore centre but says its contractor does not assess or decide applications.
If you live in another country, use the service instructions for where you actually are. Keep your application in the official channel, watch for further requests and read the written outcome before making non-refundable travel commitments.

Build a clear, consistent application
For ETA, follow the prompts for that visa. The points below are useful preparation questions, especially if you need to consider Visitor 600; they are not a fixed attachment list for a short-visit visa. For a Working Holiday visa, use its own eligibility and evidence page.
- Passport and identity documents that match your application.
- A simple account of your travel dates, purpose and accommodation.
- Evidence that you can fund the trip, or details of a supporter.
- Relevant work, study, family or residence evidence that explains your circumstances.
- Invitation details if you are visiting someone.
- Clear scans and translations where required.
Home Affairs can request additional evidence, biometrics or health checks. See its document preparation advice and our biometrics guide.
