Which visa should you check?
Use Visitor 600 for a genuine temporary visit, not employment. For a first Work and Holiday 462, check the live Türkiye cap, your education and English evidence, and the required Turkish government-support letter before applying. Residence in Türkiye alone does not confer Turkish passport eligibility.
The Visitor visa (subclass 600) tourist stream is a useful first page to review for a visit. Eligibility depends on your exact circumstances. Home Affairs decides applications.
What else should you know?
The Australian Embassy in Ankara directs visa applicants to Home Affairs and ImmiAccount, and asks applicants to attach required supporting documents and English translations at lodgement. If biometrics are requested while you are in Türkiye, the Australian Immi App may work for an eligible AUI-numbered letter; otherwise follow the collection-centre instructions in your letter.
Check the cap and government letter before you apply
For an extended holiday with short-term work, Home Affairs lists Türkiye under the first Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462). Its country-cap table showed Türkiye open with an annual first-visa grant cap of 100 when reviewed on 27 September 2026. An open cap can become paused or closed; Home Affairs says the table can lag a change by up to 48 hours. Check the live status and your ImmiAccount application before making plans. Türkiye is not in the separate China, India and Vietnam ballot.
The first-462 age range is 18–30 inclusive when applying, using the Australian Eastern time deadline on the official page. Home Affairs groups Türkiye with countries whose applicants need a tertiary degree, graduate certificate or diploma, or two completed years of undergraduate university study. It also requires Functional English evidence. A Turkish passport alone is not one of the listed passport-based English exemptions; review the current test and study evidence options.
Home Affairs specifically requires a letter of support from Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs before lodging. The Turkish Ministry's most recent notice we found describes a preliminary process for the 2025–26 intake, with a past October 2025 window. Do not reuse that window or its document list for 2026–27. Check the Ministry for a current intake, letter process and eligibility, then follow the live Home Affairs visa instructions. A cap marked open is not confirmation that you have the required letter.
For a first 462, apply online in ImmiAccount from outside Australia. Check prior Working Holiday Maker history, funds for the stay and departure, health, character and dependent-child rules. A first grant has its own entry deadline and conditions; wait for the written decision before making non-refundable travel or work commitments. Second and third 462 visas have separate criteria and no first-visa country cap.

Use a visitor stream for a visit, not paid work
A Turkish passport is not on Home Affairs' ETA 601 or eVisitor 651 passport lists. For tourism or a family visit, begin with the overseas Visitor 600 Tourist stream. It does not permit employment. Choose a visa based on the real activity and your actual passport; living in Türkiye with another passport does not make that passport Turkish.
Prepare the trip purpose, funds and circumstances relevant to your application, then use the current ImmiAccount prompts. The Australian Embassy in Ankara asks applicants to attach required evidence and English translations when lodging. Do not mail an original passport to the Embassy. If you live outside Türkiye, use the service instructions for where you actually live.

Read the biometrics request number first
Biometrics are requested for individual applications; they are not an automatic step for everyone. Home Affairs lists Türkiye as a location where an eligible request letter with a visa lodgement number beginning AUI may use the Australian Immi App. If the number does not begin AUI, its current instructions direct the applicant to an Australian Biometrics Collection Centre. Follow your own letter and the current booking directory rather than an older checklist. An app or collection centre does not decide the visa.

Build a clear, consistent application
These questions are for a Visitor 600 application. A first Work and Holiday 462 needs different evidence, including the Turkish government-support letter; see the separate section above.
- Passport and identity documents that match your application.
- A simple account of your travel dates, purpose and accommodation.
- Evidence that you can fund the trip, or details of a supporter.
- Relevant work, study, family or residence evidence that explains your circumstances.
- Invitation details if you are visiting someone.
- Clear scans and translations where required.
Home Affairs can request additional evidence, biometrics or health checks. See its document preparation advice and our biometrics guide. For the overseas Tourist stream, use our detailed Visitor 600 evidence guide.
