Which visa should you check?
Use the Visitor 600 Tourist stream for a temporary visit or Student 500 for eligible longer study. If you live outside Pakistan, check follow-up services where you actually reside.
The Visitor visa (subclass 600) tourist stream is a useful first page to review for a visit. Eligibility depends on your exact circumstances. Home Affairs decides applications.
What else should you know?
If Home Affairs requests biometrics while you are in Pakistan, first check whether your letter permits the Australian Immi App. For collection at a centre in Pakistan, the High Commission currently says an appointment is not needed. Bring your photo ID, passport and letter, and recheck the centre details.
A practical Visitor 600 sequence
- Choose the right stream. If you are outside Australia and visiting for tourism or to see family or friends, read the overseas Tourist stream. A business visit or joining family to live in Australia needs a different assessment.
- Prepare the story behind your trip. Match your passport details exactly. Explain your reason for visiting, approximate plans, funding and why you intend to leave Australia after the visit. Add relevant work, study or family evidence and an invitation if you are visiting someone.
- Apply through ImmiAccount. The High Commission says most visa applications can be made online. Upload the documents requested for your application and check your ImmiAccount messages after submission.
- Follow a biometrics request if one arrives. Check whether your letter permits the Australian Immi App. If it directs you to a centre in Pakistan, the High Commission currently says no appointment is needed. Take your photo ID, passport and letter, and check the location before travelling.
- Wait for the written decision. You must remain outside Australia when Home Affairs decides an overseas Tourist stream application. Check your grant dates and conditions before committing to travel.

What tends to cause confusion?
Is an invitation enough?
No. A host letter can explain the relationship and visit, but Home Affairs also assesses your own circumstances, funding and intention to stay temporarily. See our invitation-letter guide.
Do I need a fixed bank balance or a guaranteed processing date?
Use the official visa page and your application instructions to show access to enough money for the planned stay. We do not publish a universal bank-balance target. Home Affairs’ processing-time tool is an estimate based on recently decided applications, not a date promised for yours.
Should I use an agent or an old embassy checklist?
The High Commission says you can apply on your own and warns against false documents and visa scams. Some older embassy PDFs and pages still appear in search results; check the current Home Affairs visa page and your ImmiAccount instructions before relying on an old form, fee or checklist.

For longer study, verify the course before the visa
If your main purpose is a course in Australia, check the Student visa (subclass 500) instead of treating a Visitor 600 as a study pathway. Verify your education provider and course on CRICOS, and obtain the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) required for your intended courses. Home Affairs normally requires a valid CoE when you lodge and when it decides your application; its page explains the limited special categories.
Use the official Student document checklist tool with your Pakistani passport country and chosen provider. The evidence list can change with those details and your answers. If it asks for financial-capacity or English-language evidence, prepare and attach the required records before submitting. Do not rely on a fixed bank-balance or test-score claim from an old agent page.

Explain your study choice and follow your local request
- Prepare truthful Genuine Student answers about your current circumstances, course and provider choice, expected benefit and any other relevant matter. Use the online questions and support material claims with evidence.
- Arrange Overseas Student Health Cover for yourself and any accompanying family for the required period. Check the exact start and end dates against when you expect to arrive and the course length.
- Complete the Student 500 application in ImmiAccount and attach the documents it requests. Keep access to your own account even if someone assists you.
- After lodging, check for biometrics, health or further-document requests. If you are in Pakistan and receive a biometrics letter with an eligible AUI number, check the Australian Immi App. Otherwise follow the letter's collection-centre instructions; the High Commission currently says no appointment is needed at centres in Pakistan.
- Read the written decision and conditions before booking non-refundable travel. If you live outside Pakistan, follow local services for the country where you actually apply.

Use the UAE steps for a visitor application
If you hold a Pakistani passport and normally live in the UAE, the visa starting point remains passport-based, while your UAE work, family and residence circumstances and any local biometrics request need their own attention.
