Which update fits your situation?
The ImmiAccount actions below are for a visa application managed in ImmiAccount. An ETA (601) is applied for in the Australian ETA app; follow its current instructions and your individual letter instead of assuming it can be imported and corrected using these actions. ETA app and further-processing steps → Application-channel check: 8 October 2026. This is a route finder for visa applications. Home Affairs gives separate instructions for citizenship applications. Use your own application and any request letter to choose the final step.
- An answer was already wrong when you submitted: use the visa application’s Notification of incorrect answer(s) in ImmiAccount.
- Your circumstances changed afterward: use Notification of changes in circumstances before a decision; address and contact details have dedicated actions.
- You uploaded the wrong file: notify Home Affairs and attach the correct file. A submitted attachment cannot be removed.
- You got a new passport: follow the passport-specific route, which has exceptions for particular details and visa types.
- You applied on paper: read the paper alternative. You already have a visa grant: read the continuing incorrect-information obligation. For another written outcome, use the decision checks.

Was it wrong at submission, or did it become different later?
If an answer was inaccurate when you submitted the visa application, Home Affairs calls this an incorrect answer. If the answer was accurate then but your circumstances later changed, use its changes in circumstances route. Examples of later changes include marriage, separation, a new child or a change of name. An address, email, phone or passport update has a dedicated action in ImmiAccount.
Write down the exact question or file affected, the accurate information, when it became true and any relevant document. Give a clear, truthful explanation; do not silently submit a second application to hide an error or guess how an officer will assess it.

Use “Notification of incorrect answer(s)”
Home Affairs says to report a mistake on a submitted visa application as soon as possible. In ImmiAccount, expand the application with the plus sign, choose Update details, then Notification of incorrect answer(s). Select Add, complete the fields and Confirm. Check that you selected the correct application and applicant. Keep your own record of the notification and monitor the account for a further request.
This is for a visa application. The official page gives a different attachment process for a citizenship application. If you cannot find your visa application in ImmiAccount, use Home Affairs' import or access instructions before assuming the notification is unavailable.
You cannot remove a file after submission
Home Affairs says an attachment can be removed before the application is submitted, but not afterward. If you attached the wrong document to a submitted application, use the Notification of incorrect answer(s) form from Update details and attach the correct document as soon as possible. Identify the wrong file and the correct replacement clearly. Follow any specific message about the document type or deadline.
Check the replacement actually uploaded. In Attach documents, select the correct applicant and document category. Home Affairs says a completed upload appears under Received with a green tick. Choosing a file on your device alone does not confirm it reached the application. This upload indicator is not confirmation that the correction was accepted or a visa granted. Upload receipt note checked 15 October 2026.
Do not email sensitive supporting documents to an unofficial address. Keep private copies of what you uploaded because Home Affairs says the uploaded files cannot later be retrieved from ImmiAccount.

Use the circumstances or contact-detail action that fits
If your situation changes before Home Affairs finalises the application, its online route is Update details → Notification of changes in circumstances, then Add, complete the fields and Confirm. Attach official evidence explaining the change where relevant. A new residential address, phone number or email has its own Update details path; Home Affairs asks you to report a residential move lasting more than 14 days and any postal-address change.
A new passport also has a dedicated update path, with exceptions for particular detail changes. An existing ETA cannot be transferred to a new passport. Read the passport guide instead of using a general incorrect-answer notice for every document change.

Import it when possible; use the official form if not
Home Affairs recommends using ImmiAccount to correct or update an application even if it was originally lodged on paper; some paper applications can be imported. If that is not possible for a visa application, its paper guidance says to send Form 1023 for an incorrect answer or Form 1022 for a later change in circumstances to the office where the application was lodged. Check the form and office instructions before sending it.
Do not use those visa forms for a citizenship application: Home Affairs provides different instructions. Do not copy an old form from another website; use the current Home Affairs version.

Already granted? An original error still needs attention
Home Affairs’ Form 1023 says the obligation to correct incorrect information remains after a visa is granted. A grant is not a reason to leave a known original error uncorrected. Follow the current notification instructions for your application; if the relevant action is unavailable, ask Home Affairs how to provide the notice for your case.
The form says cancellation is not automatic; MyAusVisa cannot determine an individual visa consequence. Get prompt authorised help when this matters. A later change is a separate question: Form 1022 has different timing instructions for applications made in or outside Australia. Read its current information page rather than assuming every notification rule ends at grant.

Watch requests and read the written decision
Reporting a correction does not itself mean Home Affairs has accepted an explanation or approved a visa. For an application managed in ImmiAccount, check its Messages and Actions required sections for a further request. Follow any deadline in your individual letter. The ImmiAccount status alone does not tell you what the decision will be.
If the application has already been finalised, read the written outcome before taking another step. Review rights, deadlines or possible visa consequences depend on the decision and your circumstances; get prompt case-specific help from an authorised professional when these matter. MyAusVisa cannot amend a government record or determine whether an error affects eligibility.
