VISITOR 600 EVIDENCE · REVIEWED 27 SEPTEMBER 2026

How do you show reasons to return after an Australian visit?

For a Visitor 600 Tourist application from outside Australia, explain your real plans and the work, study, family or residence circumstances that make this a temporary visit. Choose evidence that fits your life; there is no single document that proves you will leave.

01 / START WITH THE ACTUAL TRIP

Explain where you will go, for how long and why

Home Affairs asks overseas Tourist applicants to be genuine visitors. Its document examples include plans in Australia, money for the stay and departure, and reasons to return. Write a short, truthful timeline: intended arrival, approximate length, places or people you will visit, who pays and when you expect to resume your usual commitments.

Match this account to your form, invitation, leave dates and financial evidence. A detailed day-by-day itinerary is not a substitute for real circumstances, and paying for non-refundable travel before a decision creates risk.

02 / WORK OR BUSINESS

Show what you expect to resume

For an employee, Home Affairs gives an employer letter about returning to work as an example. Its visitor tips also mention a current payslip and a letter granting leave. A useful letter can identify the employer, your role, approved leave period and expected return date, if the employer can truthfully confirm those facts. Include genuine recent work records if they help connect the letter to your situation.

If you are self-employed, an employer leave letter may not exist. Explain the business and the commitments you will return to, using genuine current records relevant to your work. Do not create a job letter or claim a return date that has not been agreed.

03 / STUDY AND FAMILY

Use the commitments that actually apply

Home Affairs lists current study and immediate family among possible reasons to return. A student may use an enrolment record and term dates that show when study resumes. A parent or carer may explain family circumstances and provide relevant relationship evidence, such as a child's birth certificate where it is genuinely relevant.

These are examples, not a requirement to own property, have children or be employed. If a category does not describe you, leave it out. Explain another real reason for the short trip and provide the evidence the application asks for; unsupported claims can make the story less clear.

04 / LIVING OUTSIDE YOUR PASSPORT COUNTRY

Explain your usual country of residence

Home Affairs asks for reasons to return to your home country or usual country of residence. If you live in a third country, show the actual situation there: for example, a valid residence permission, work or study, family ties, and the ability to return after the visit. Check the travel document and residence rules for that country separately; an Australian visa does not establish a right to re-enter it.

Use your passport country to check Australian visa options, and your current residence to explain where you apply and what you will resume. Living abroad does not, by itself, prove or disprove that you are a genuine visitor.

05 / PROPERTY AND OTHER ASSETS

Include them only when they help explain your situation

The Tourist stream page lists a home or other major assets as possible return evidence. Ownership can be relevant, but a deed by itself says little about trip purpose, access to funds or the right to return to a country. Use clear ownership records only if they are genuine and relevant to your explanation.

You do not need to invent property ownership. Renters, students and people living with family can describe their real arrangements and other commitments. No single item from the Home Affairs example list guarantees a grant.

06 / BEFORE UPLOADING

Check the whole story and the current prompts

Compare names, dates and locations across your passport, application, invitation, bank evidence and return documents. Upload readable files through the official application channel and follow Home Affairs' translation instructions for non-English documents. Respond to any later request in ImmiAccount by its deadline.

Keep personal records on your own device. MyAusVisa does not assess your ties or collect employer letters, family records or residence permits. If a refusal, prior overstay or another complex issue affects your case, consider authorised case-specific help before relying on a generic checklist.
